Welcome to the February edition of Ensemble. I hope you’re all staying safe and keeping well.

This month we lead with the exciting news about a major construction milestone at our first Asia Pacific venue, the Theatre Royal Sydney. Construction is well underway and on-track for the theatre’s opening later this year, amid a colourful summer theatre season that the Australian city has enjoyed. Low COVID-19 cases has meant Australian theatres have been open and fully operational. We are thrilled to be making good progress towards the opening of the theatre in one of the world’s only active cultural hotspots due to the devastation of the pandemic, and so the development of Theatre Royal Sydney also represents an important cultural milestone as well.

Our other big story this month is the casting of Felicity Kendall and Gary Wilmot in our production of Anything Goes. Both hugely loved and respected stars, this is a masterstroke piece of casting and puts Anything Goes on course to be the perfect tonic for theatre audiences when it opens at the Barbican Theatre over the summer.

As I’ve said before, we’ve got lots to look forward to as a company and post pandemic, we can continue to build a brighter future for us all. With the NHS hitting their vaccination targets, change is hopefully just around the corner.
