SCOTT’S MUMBAI ADVENTURE

We caught up with Glasgow Pavilion’s VME, Scott Fillan, to tell us about a recent trip to Mumbai.

How was your bank holiday weekend? I found myself in Mumbai, India, directing a live Wrestling PPV with the Prime Minister of India in attendance. A few months back, I was approached to see if I would be interested in being the Director and Producer of WXM, a new pro wrestling company in India. I agreed because why not?

When I arrived in Delhi in March, I had no idea of the scale of the project. I had 300 crew and an unlimited budget and found myself directing eight episodes for TV in three days! The days were long, 18-hour workdays with very little sleep, but I loved every minute of it. Arriving back in the UK, I was told they might be doing another season in August if they got a TV deal, and they would be in touch!

Two weeks later, they called me and asked if I would be free to direct a live PPV in Mumbai in April. We had 14 days to pull this show off. At one point, we were told Eminem would be playing the show; unfortunately, this did not come to pass! However, during the set-up up my production manager came up to me and said that this is the same team that filmed the Christopher Nolan film TENET in Mumbai! That’s right, me and big Chris have the same crew. I wonder if that means he will accept my Facebook friend request?

During set-up we had four blackout power cuts, the ring broke twice and we were four hours behind production rehearsals. Then in swoops the Indian Army with sniffer dogs and the bomb squad to do a sweep of the venue for the arrival of the Prime Minister, along with a very frank and sensual rub down from one of the Indian guards (I wonder if he will call). We where off to the races and the show went off without a hitch!

What a trip! I will be heading out to India again in August to film season two of WXM and fulfil my dream of being a Bollywood star! But that was my bank holiday!
