PRODUCTION NEWS

There’s lots of exciting production news this month.

Jersey Boys recently celebrated its one-year anniversary of performance at Trafalgar Theatre. Alongside the anniversary celebrations, we welcomed new cast members to the show including Luke Suri, recently the alternate Frankie Valli in the UK and Ireland tour of the production. Luke made his West End debut in the role in July and joined Adam Bailey as Bob Gaudio, Karl James Wilson as Nick Massi, and Benjamin Yates as Tommy De Vito who are all continuing on the show.

Jonathan Church Theatre Productions and David Ian for Crossroads Live UK have announced the Curve and Sadler’s Wells production of the musical 42nd Street, opening at Curve, Leicester in May 2023, followed by a summer season at Sadler’s Wells from June and a UK tour.

This new production will be directed by Jonathan with choreography and design by Olivier Award winners Bill Deamer and Rob Jones. Casting and full creative team will be announced in due course.

This iconic song-and-dance spectacular features a hit parade of toe-tapping songs, including the title number, “We’re In The Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “Shuffle Off To Buffalo” and “I Only Have Eyes For You”.

42nd Street is a timeless and inspiring showbiz fairy tale that combines breath-taking tap dance routines, backstage intrigue, classic romance and delightful comedy to dazzling effect.

As Anything Goes enters its final weeks at the Barbican Theatre, there has been a new development in audience delight with reports of audience members dressing up as sailors in the front row! Surely a first for London audiences!

Meanwhile, The Spectator has published a new online review of the show with the headline “I can’t recommend this Cole Porter musical highly enough”. In another great line from the review, writer Lloyd Evans says: “Though the show is 88 years old, it feels as fresh as a punnet of picked-this-morning strawberries!”

And the Anything Goes cast celebrated 100 performances of the show this week! Congratulations!
