EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: OLIVER STACEY
Where do you work and what do you do?
I was recently appointed as Venue Director at Southend Theatres which comprises of the Cliffs Pavilion and the Palace Theatre. The venues are approximately one mile apart and have capacities of 1657 and 607. The Cliffs has two function rooms and the Palace has our studio space, The Dixon, which holds 100 people.
Favourite stage production and why?
We had a production of Peter and the Wolf at The Cliffs Pavilion in 2008 featuring the soloists from the Philharmonia Orchestra and was narrated by Brian Blessed. It was a fantastic performance and I sat with Brian Blessed one afternoon and listened to him energetically reel off amazing stories about his life and his celebrity friends. I childishly asked him to sign my DVD of Flash Gordon and he obliged.

Describe your perfect day off work.
A sunny day in London with my family for a slow wander round, lunch at Borough Market and a few drinks in the early evening.
What’s the one thing you can’t leave the house without?
A watch. I have a few and don’t like not wearing one.
Your Greatest sporting achievement?
I walked to my car this morning but outside of that I don’t have one. To live vicariously though, my children both swim competitively and take part in 3k and 5k outdoor swims which is incredible to watch.
Who is your hero and why?
My Mum. For the most part, she raised us on her own, whilst working and was always supportive of us. She had a great outlook on life and would always let us know how much pride she took from our achievements.
Holiday plans for 2026?
We haven’t booked a summer holiday yet but hopefully a week or two on a Greek island, close to a beach. Then later in the year, we spend a weekend at a beer festival every September in Shouldham, Norfolk and will be going again this year.
