CHISWICK CINEMA NEWS
It’s been another busy month at The Chiswick Cinema!
MAMMA MIA!
Director Phyllida Lloyd was booked as a surprise guest for the monthly West London Queer Project sing-along and gave some candid insights into the making of Mamma Mia!, following an ABBA-pun-tastic intro from marketing exec Chris.
The sold-out screening saw a diverse mix of Queer Project guests, Members and new customers enjoy cocktails and food in the bar before singing their hearts out.

Kathryn and Chris also recently attended the unveiling of LBGTQIA+ rainbow crossings in Chiswick, cementing their close personal ties to the local community and its people.
Feedback on the night from Founder Members including joy at seeing such a busy bar, some enamored with their exclusive cocktail offering and many (including a local journalist) surprised by how much fun they found the screening.
KAREL REISZ
The headline event at the cinema for March is also the self-programmed season on the films of auteur Karel Reisz. Shining a light on the Czech-born filmmakers early works, Kathryn and Chris have worked closely with Guardian journalist Matthew Reisz and BBC Arts critic Philip Bergson to put together the season.

The South Bank Show host Melvyn Bragg will host the opening night Q&A with Karel’s family, introducing the audience to his works.
Subsequent Q&As hopefully include a household name filmmaker and other stars related to Karel’s works. With these British New Wave films screening, as well as archive materials of Karel’s displayed in the cinema and with special guests, speakers and charity/education partners in the planning, the cinema team are positioning themselves as a culture hub for the wider film community in London as well as offering a diverse package for Founder Members.
