Welcome to the March 2025 edition of Ensemble.

Earlier this month, we held our annual management Away Day at Fareham Live. It was lovely to see so many colleagues, so thank you to everyone who attended the event, especially those who travelled from overseas.

Special thanks to Matt Clark, Fleur Manuel and their team for planning and delivering another fabulous event, the contributors, presenters and speakers who worked on the presentations and interviews, and Stephan Stockton and everyone at Fareham Live for being wonderful hosts, and looking after us all so well on the day. 

This year’s Away Day was the last in our set of four away days focussing on living the values of Trafalgar Entertainment – collaboration, excellence, creativity – and respect.

The values came out of the workshops we worked on together in 2019. We were looking to arrive at a shared understanding of things that are important to us all.

What were the things you had to say about Respect back in 2019?

Respect everyone’s contribution
Build an open and tolerant company culture through mutual respect and trust
Support individuals and create opportunities for them to succeed
Commit to furthering diversity
Value transparency and deal honestly with stakeholders and partners, welcoming all feedback

That’s broad! It covers everything from working culture to diversity, to ethical business practice. And since then, with global temperatures rising and 2024 being the hottest year on record, it would seem urgent and appropriate to include respect for the environment in our definition. 

It sometimes feels like everyone out there is talking about respect right now: what it means, who it affects and who is getting it wrong. It can be controversial; it can mean tricky conversations. But I’m proud of us, as a company for having held to this value, acknowledging its importance to staff, to investors and to our customers. We’re exploring something that will really be worth having. Something that will make a real difference to our business success internally and externally.
