FAMILY FUN DAY IN SWINDON

Swindon families were in for a treat this February half-term as the Wyvern Theatre opened its doors for a day packed with creativity, colour, and fun at its Family Fun Day on 21st February.

The theatre came alive with a wide range of free activities designed to spark imagination, keeping children and adults alike entertained throughout the day. Children got hands-on with a variety of craft activities inspired by upcoming family shows, including Natural History Museum Presents: Dinosaurs Live and The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show, to name just a few.

Ahead of Barnum’s visit in May, visitors also had the chance to perfect their circus skills, with workshops running throughout the day where families could try their hand at juggling, plate spinning and the diablo. Meanwhile, younger visitors enjoyed story and rhyme sessions with the National Literacy Trust, encouraging a love of reading and storytelling in a playful and welcoming environment.

There was also a chance for curious visitors to see what happens behind the scenes, with backstage theatre tours giving families the opportunity to step into parts of the venue usually hidden from the audience and discover how live performances are brought to life.

Budding explorers could also take part in the Dinosaur Fact Trail, which guided visitors around the theatre as they uncovered fascinating prehistoric local facts along the way. Did you know that the first Stegosaurus ever described was discovered in Swindon in 1874?

The Family Fun Day offered a relaxed and welcoming way for families to explore the Wyvern Theatre, try something new, and enjoy quality time together in a creative setting, with over 200 children participating in a range of pre-booked workshops throughout the morning, alongside many additional families who dropped in on the day to take part.

CHARLIE’S PROMISE AT G LIVE

On 3 March, G Live welcomed more than 400 parents, young people and families for a powerful community event in collaboration with Charlie’s Promise, the charity established in memory of Charlie Cosser. The event at G Live was hosted by Martin Cosser, Charlie’s father, who delivered a deeply moving and personal talk about his experience and the mission behind Charlie’s Promise. His speech highlighted the urgent need to educate young people about the consequences of knife crime and the importance of working together to create safer communities.
