PRODUCTION MOMENTS 2019

We asked the producing team to Trafalgar Theatre Productions to tell us about their favourite production moments of 2019

Howard Panter
I was personally particularly proud of the work we did in bringing Peter Nichols’ A Day in the Death of Joe Egg to Studio 1. To achieve the balance of humour and heartbreak was extraordinary and we were fortunate to have an excellent cast including Storme Toolis – the first time in West End history that an actor who is a wheelchair user has been cast in the central role.

Matt Parritt
My highlight would be our production of Education Education Education – it was brilliant to give a new British company [The Wardrobe Ensemble] the chance to bring their show to the West End and everyone involved was making their West End debut. The audience each night loved it and it brought a lot of first time theatregoers into Trafalgar. A great soundtrack of 90s hits as well.

Elizabeth Sturt
A couple of my favourite productions this year have been at Trafalgar Studios. I absolutely loved Education, Education, Education and Equus but was most proud of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg. The play is quite a personal one to me and I was really excited to help in the casting of the show, in particular of Storme Toolis. I think the production and her casting sums up Trafalgar – always striving to push the boundaries of theatre in the West End and beyond.

David Fearns
My highlight of 2019 was Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show. I saw the production a number of times on the tour – however Halloween night at the Edinburgh Playhouse was particularly special, sharing the performance with a completely sold out theatre of over 3000 people in all manners of dress! The tour was seen by over a quarter of a million people, a huge proportion of which were younger, first time attenders. The fact that it’s over 45 years since it was first on stage, and it continues to attract new audiences speaks volumes for the cross generational timeless appeal of this fabulous musical – and long may it reign!

Jo Benjamin
I am very proud of our production of The King and I. This year we have played in Scotland, Eire and Japan as well as various cities in England. The show has received five star reviews and standing ovations at every performance since it opened at the Palladium last year. With a touring company of over 70 people, it is a huge endeavour to tour both nationally and internationally, but with the wonderful team we have working on the show both on stage and off, we move seamlessly from venue to venue. This award-winning show is a highlight of everyone’s year.
