COVID-19 INDUSTRY UPDATE

Following the industry wide closure of UK and London theatres on 16 March, the Society of London Theatre (SOLT) announced that they were cancelling all performances until 26 April 2020.

“The theatre industry is lobbying government for a clearer time frame on closures and extending the legal refund window, and urging credit card companies to look at their automatic charge-back processes during this time period,” it said, adding: “We are so sorry that in these testing and difficult times you are not able to enjoy the show you have booked for. We are cancelling all performances until April 26, whilst we wait for further clarity from the government.”

Yesterday it was announced on Trafalgar Studios social media platforms that sadly, all remaining performances of On Blueberry Hill in Studio 1, One Jewish Boy in Studio 2, as well as the planned run of Shook were all cancelled.

In addition, the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) issued a statement asking ticket buyers to be patient and kind in the wake of the Coronavirus crisis, by not flooding contact centres with calls and emails but to wait for ticket sellers to contact them regarding exchanges and refunds.

Jonathan Brown, Chief Executive of STAR said,“Rest assured, our members are working as hard as they can to resolve your issues. They are very busy also dealing with their own measures to care for their staff and run their businesses.

“Please be patient and kind as box offices, ticket agents and other ticket sellers are committed to helping you during this extremely difficult period.”

The organisers of The Olivier Awards have also announced that there will be a special programme broadcast on the night it would have presented its 2020 awards show, which was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.

The hour-long programme will revisit Olivier ceremonies over the past 10 years with archive footage of performances and speeches and a celebration of award-winning productions. The programme will be broadcast on ITV on Sunday 5 April at 10.15pm. The 2020 ceremony has been postponed and is likely to be held in the autumn.
