JULY CREATIVE LEARNING UPDATE

Creative Learning transformed the Studio over the weekend of 6-7 July for their end of year performance programme. Both our Young Drama groups and Young Company used the theme of Neverland and Peter Pan and created original work that were performed in front of sell out audiences.

The Big Adventure
Young Drama Juniors and Senior groups came together to deliver a pitch perfect retelling of the well-loved Peter Pan story. Created as a promenade piece in the Studio, the audience were transported to different sets and became part of the story.

Escape from NL
Young Company 1 wrote, devised, and performed an original story about how a grieving father recreated his child ‘Peter’ as an AI character in an App and promoted it as an exciting new game – NL. However, once the AI characters in the NL world took on their new life, they then threatened to take over the users playing the game, leaving only Peter to save the day.

CREWE

On 30 June, over 100 community participants took to our Main Stage for our first showcase! Take a Bow… A Lyceum Legacy highlighted our four youth theatre groups, community choir, and Lyceum Lites Inclusive Theatre group. The showcase was hosted by our panto star Ste Johnson, who kept the audience entertained and encouraged their support, celebrating the remarkable talent within our creative community at the Lyceum. The event featured a variety of sketches, including acting, singing, and movement. We were thrilled to welcome 286 audience members who came to support our performers.

Very exciting plans are afoot for Creative Learning at Fareham Live as we welcomed Joanna Bennington to the team this month. Joanna is working closely with Gavin Shuman and Jo Stead-Burgess to develop and deliver a brand-new programme that will engage and enthuse local people of all ages, beginning with youth theatre in October, and West End Experience in Spring 2025! Watch this space for future updates.

GUILDFORD

Family Fun Day
Our Summer Family Fun Day offering welcomed over 200 people from our local communities for an exciting morning bursting with an array of Peter Pan inspired craft activities, where young people came together with their parents, carers, and grandparents to create a fabulous, giant Lost Boys Den!

School Visits
This month, we also opened our doors to two different schools, offering them the opportunity to explore the G Live spaces never open to the public, including our backstage areas, dressing rooms and even the main stage! Children got to take part in a mixture of arts activities run by Creative Learning and a Q&A session with our wonderful Technical and Guest Experience Teams in our Bellerby Studio.

Youth Theatre Showcase
On 4 July, our incredible Youth Theatres performed in their annual end of year showcase, on the Palace Theatre stage. Six groups, ranging from participants aged 4 to 19, were able to share all their talent and hard work to an audience of friends and family, in a show titled Spread A Little Happiness. All technical elements of the show were provided by our very talented Technical Youth Company, supported by the Palace Theatre Tech Team. We were also joined by three Work Experience students throughout the week to explore what goes in to putting a production, just like this one!
