JCTP NEWS ROUND-UP

Georgia Gatti, Executive Producer at Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, updates Ensemble with all the latest news from JCTP!

It’s been a busy month for everyone at JCTP with new show announcements, appointments and rehearsals. We’re really excited to be co-producing with Birmingham Rep and the National Theatre, the 25th anniversary production of Ayub Khan Din’s East is East directed by Iqbal Khan.

Since premiering on The REP’s stage in 1996, East Is East has sold out three London runs, been adapted into a BAFTA Award-winning film and become a modern classic of comic-drama. The production will open at Birmingham Rep, before transferring to the NT and then Chichester Festival Theatre.

Following the recent big casting announcement for Singin’ in the Rain, rehearsals began in earnest at the end of June and got off to a great start. Former Strictly Come Dancing favourite Kevin Clifton, Steps star Faye Tozer, Charlotte Gooch and Cavin Cornwall are joining Adam Cooper to lead our new co-production of the Olivier Award-nominated musical. The production will play a strictly limited run at Sadler’s Wells from Friday 30 July – Sunday 5 September 2021 ahead of international dates and a 2022 UK tour.

We have also just agreed a partnership with Masterclass to offer a costume internship on Singin’ too. Sofie Mo is a second-year costume student at Wimbledon College of Arts, where she specialises in costume interpretation. She has gained experience in her local Churchill Theatre, in Bromley, working as a wardrobe assistant/dresser.

Finally, we are pleased to announce that Poppy Parker has joined the JCTP team as Stage One Trainee Producer. Poppy comes from us after roles at the Manchester Royal Exchange and Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and we are delighted to have her on board. Welcome Poppy!
