EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: CAROL NEWTON

Welcome to our monthly who’s who of Trafalgar Entertainment. This month we say hello to Carol Newton!

Where do you work and what do you do?
I am situated at the Woking office and I am Group HR Manager.

Describe yourself in 3 words!
Generous, affectionate, problem-solving

Favourite stage production and why?
Les Misérables – It’s got everything; a timeless story which pulls on your heartstrings, humour, brilliant songs and a revolving stage – what more could you want?!

Favourite song?
Ain’t Nobody by Chaka Khan.

Top 3 films?
Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, The Shawshank Redemption and Heat – Melissa McCarthy makes me belly laugh!

Top 3 dinner party guests (alive or dead) and why?
Bette Davies because she was a fascinating woman and would hopefully bring some eye opening tales of Hollywood. Peter Kay as he’s brilliant at stand-up and I think he would bring a lot of spontaneous humour. My final guest would be Gaudi; a little different from the other two but I absolutely love his designs and want to know what made him tick!

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Florence – a friend and I surprised a colleague Joan and took her away for her 90th birthday. Back in the day, she used to be a ladies fashion buyer for Harvey Nicks and Florence held many a great memory for her. With her as a knowledgeable and excited tour guide, it made the trip of a very industrious and vibrant city, truly amazing. Joan will be 100 this year and I can’t wait to celebrate with her.

Your Greatest sporting achievement?
A team of five colleagues from Stagecoach cycled from Walton (former Head Office site) to Paris for charity about 8 or 9 years ago. It was painful, wet (rain…lots of it) and emotional, yet a totally amazing experience with good company and many a great story to dine out on!

How do you spend your weekends?
With my family; husband Dave and my youngest two kids, Amy (13) and Matthew (16). We also have two dogs, Missy and Betty, and I have my mum living with us as she has dementia and mobility issues and wasn’t coping well on her own. As our son is an avid rugby player, at this time of the year early on a Sunday morning you’ll normally find me standing at the side lines somewhere in Surrey, freezing cold! Weekends are a great time to catch up and have a meal with friends too.

Biggest regret in life?
This is a tricky one as I don’t believe in the sentiment of regret. I think it traps you in a negative place and can be quite detrimental to your well-being. I’m an emotional gal so it’s not always easy but I proactively take time to reflect and makes change that I am in control of.

Who is your hero and why?
My Dad, Dennis. He sadly died three and a half years ago but his work ethic, drive and wicked sense of humour is something I will always aspire to. He was loved and admired by many and was always there to offer support.
