DRESSED TO IMPRESS AT OLIVIER AWARDS

Following a sold out record-breaking season at the world famous London Palladium last summer, The Lincoln Center Theater production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I won the award for Best Costume Design at this year’s Olivier Awards thanks to the sumptuous costumes designed by Catherine Zuber.

At the glitzy ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 7 April, audience members were also treated to a special performance of Shall We Dance by Jose Llana and Annalene Beechey.

Producer Howard Panter said: “We are thrilled and humbled that The King and I has won the Olivier Award for Best Costume Design and we are of course delighted for the brilliant Catherine Zuber whose elegant designs have spectacularly brought our production to life. It has been a phenomenal year for this multi award-winning production. The response from London audiences at the Palladium was unprecedented.

“Critical plaudits, Box Office records and standing ovations at every show – we were overwhelmed with the rapturous response. All this coupled with the reaction to the Global cinema screenings of the film version – which was the biggest theatre event in cinemas last year and number one at the Box Office. The King and I really is musical theatre at its very best.”

The King and I embarks on a major UK tour from today (26 April) kicking off at the Manchester Opera House.
