COMPASS COLLECTIVE AT THE BECK THEATRE

On Thu 6 April, the Beck Theatre hosted local unaccompanied minor refugees and young people seeking asylum in the UK to perform pieces on the theme of ‘Awaiting Home’. For four days, Compass Collective ran the workshops and rehearsals at Brunel University and the Beck Theatre, before performing their original work on The Beck’s stage, accompanied by Zhvan Theatre Company, who are residents at Holiday Inn, Wembley, and meet weekly to rehearse.
Compass Collective’s aim is to strengthen communities, build resilience and help young people seeking sanctuary integrate into the UK through theatre, music and film projects and arts-led professional development programmes.
Charlotte Young, Creative Learning Officer at the Beck, said: “I’m honoured that we have collaborated with the Compass Collective and Zhvan Theatre Company on this powerful and poignant project. The post-show Q&A contextualised of the barriers that these strong, motivated and determined individuals have overcome, and how much they have to share with the world, and I’m in awe of each and every one of them. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”

CHOIR SING HEARTS OUT AT CREWE LYCEUM
On 28 March, Crewe Lyceum’s Choir (below) sang in spectacular harmony for their spring concert. They sang a variety of songs from the shows including Sister Act, West Side Story, Bugsy Malone, and many more in the Studio Theatre.
The Lyceum Choir is made up of the local community who all have a passion for singing, with 35 participants aged 18 and over and is continuing to grow. This was their first time performing in the Studio and they already have their sights on taking to the main stage! Next year they are planning on partnering with other local choirs for a spectacular showcase!
