CHANGING ROOMS: OLD TOWN HALL GETS A MAKEOVER

Colleagues are encouraged to take a look at the striking before-and-after visuals from the recent development of The Old Town Hall in Wycombe. With a relatively modest CapEx investment, the space has been significantly transformed—elevating its look and feel while making it far more adaptable and commercially viable.

The development focused on a simple yet effective redesign, creating a studio theatre aesthetic and introducing moving lights. These upgrades enhance production quality while reducing both hire costs and the time required for set-up and de-rig—delivering immediate operational benefits.

As a result, we see strong opportunities to:

  • Deliver around 50 additional events annually, led by Fiona Martin with support from Rhys Hopkin and the Programming team
  • Introduce standing-format tribute gigs and showcase up-and-coming artists
  • Operate within a 200–400 capacity sweet spot for stand-up comedy
  • Increase local arts group usage, alongside broader community and business hire

Looking ahead, building consistent content and momentum will further strengthen our position as we approach council management renewal discussions. Plans are in place to officially re-launch the space in September, alongside a full programme of public events.

“Thank you to Connor Harper for getting this all set up and Fiona for driving to completion since her return. This is a fantastic example of how targeted investment can unlock new potential and create meaningful growth opportunities.”
— Gary Roden, COO Trafalgar Theatres
