TRAFALGAR EDUCATION UPDATE
SUMMER YOUTH PROJECT WRAPS FOR ANOTHER YEAR
A huge, heartfelt shoutout to our Creative Learning Managers for delivering another truly phenomenal Summer Youth Project. Across seven venues this year: Palace Theatre Southend, Orchard Theatre Dartford, Fareham Live, Wyvern Theatre Swindon, G Live Guildford, Lyceum Theatre Crewe and Wycombe Swan High Wycombe, our teams took seven separate productions – Shrek The Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Peter Pan, Little Shop of Horrors, Wizard of Oz and The Addams Family – from a room full of nervous auditionees to full, professional performances in just two weeks.
715 young performers and 73 young techs walked through our doors this summer, some as first-timers arriving anxious and unsure, others returning for their fourth, fifth, even eighteenth year, and every single one of them left changed. They found friendships, confidence, and in some cases, a whole new sense of who they want to become.
One participant told us they hadn’t seriously considered acting as a career until this project gave them the trust and opportunity to believe they could. A parent said that SYP had helped manage their daughter’s anxiety and gave her “the most professional and enjoyable experience” she’d ever had. A volunteer of nearly two decades called this year “exceptional,” and said the care and kindness shown by our CLMs is what makes SYP “so amazing.”
None of this happens by accident. It happens because our Creative Learning Managers pour everything they have into these two weeks: patience, creativity, late nights, and a belief in every single young person who walks through the door.
And to the Venue Teams – Thank you for your support, time, understanding, and for opening up your spaces so these young people could shine. This is what Creative Learning is all about. Thank you, and congratulations to everyone involved, you should be so proud of what you’ve built.
