WELCOME – SEPTEMBER 2019

Welcome to the September edition of Ensemble.

Howard and I were truly saddened to hear about the passing of Peter Nichols last week, merely days before the opening of what is unquestionably his greatest achievement as a playwright; A Day in the Death of Joe Egg at Trafalgar Studios. Peter had been in constant touch during the lead up to the production opening and Howard paid tribute to him following his death. Read on to see what he had to say.

As the mother of a child with Downs Syndrome, I’m able to identify with Peter’s experience of raising a disabled daughter, and A Day in the Death of Joe Egg really resonates with me. I was therefore delighted with the casting of Storme Toolis in the play’s titular role; the first time ever that a disabled actor has been cast in this role in the West End. A brilliant casting decision and one that is long overdue.

A Day in the Death of Joe Egg is now playing at Trafalgar Studios. I’d like to wish all the cast, crew and everyone at the venue a successful run with the play.

Finally, congratulations to our colleagues at Trafalgar Releasing for a blockbuster August. The latest feature film, BRING THE SOUL: THE MOVIE, from global superstars BTS, saw 2.55 million people around the world flock to their local cinema to see the boyband following their landmark LOVE YOURSELF tour. The film was seen in over 5,000 movie theatres on a limited engagement gaining a global box office of over $24 million; an astonishing achievement. Other cinema successes for Trafalgar Releasing last month included Rush: Cinema Strangiato which generated around $1m globally and the 9th annual Grateful Dead Meet-Up at the Movies which took around $0.5 million at the box office. Well done to all concerned!

Best wishes
Rosemary
