TRAFALGAR’S FUNDRAISING HEROES
It’s always heart-warming to hear inspirational stories from our colleagues who are taking on challenges for great causes. This month, we meet some more fundraising heroes. Please support them if you can – THANK YOU!
MERYL FAIERS
Last weekend, Meryl Faiers (Executive Producer, Rocky Horror Show) took part in a charity walk for her local hospice in memory of her late husband, David.
Meryl said: “I took part in Star Shine Night Walk 2025 to help raise money for the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and to celebrate the life of my husband of 45 years, David. The Hospice at Home team provided invaluable practical and emotional support to our family during the final few weeks of David’s life and I want others to be able to receive the same help. As a family we were always great walkers so it seemed only appropriate to celebrate David by joining the Star Shine Night Walk.”

Meryl added: “The walk took place on what was the hottest day of the year but luckily it was an evening event. Even so, we set off in 29 degree heat, finishing in a much more comfortable 23 degrees, having walked 10 miles through the centre of Cambridge on a busy Saturday evening complete with at least one May Ball by the River Cam.
“The walk raised £44.9k for the work of the hospice and I’m extremely proud to say that, thanks to everyone’s extraordinary generosity, I was the number one individual fundraiser, securing £2,330 in sponsorship. I’m enormously grateful to all who donated.”

DEAN MARRINER

This summer, Dean Marriner (Senior People Development Partner) is taking part in the Macmillan Swim It Challenge. Dean’s goal is to swim the length of the English Channel (21 miles) over the months of June and July to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Dean said: “Cancer has had an impact on those close to me over the last seven years. First, I lost my grandfather to it – a man full of old school charm and stories. He fought bravely, and Macmillan was there to help my him and grandmother through it.
“And last year, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Whilst she dealt with it very well, at times it was scary and overwhelming for me. Thankfully, she’s coming through the other side but I’ll never forget the reassuring presence of the help Macmillan provided. So now it’s my turn to give back.”
