PINTER ON SCREEN

The Chiswick Cinema has launched its PINTER ON SCREEN programme celebrating the screenplays of Harold Pinter in partnership with Chiswick Book Festival.

Having boasted 66 live Q&A events in almost two years, The Chiswick follows on from its Karel Reisz and Richard Attenborough retrospectives with another homegrown celebration of a titan of the creative industries working with his estate, family and biographer.

Running until September, the season shines a spotlight on Pinter’s screenplays for cinema. Michael Billington, biographer and author, curated the season opening with a launch night Q&A with Chiswick Book Festival director Torin Douglas.

Actor Maxwell Caulfield (Grease 2), gave a recorded interview at the cinema about his screen debut in Pinter/Losey’s Accident which screened on the opening night.

Future programme announced as The Pumpkin Eater, The Quiller Memorandum, The Comfort of Strangers, and The French Lieutenant’s Woman.

Chris Parker, Programme and Marketing Manager, The Chiswick Cinema, said: “For the first time, as we approach our fourth year as a cinema, our own homegrown programming lines up perfectly with our community ties. This is a unique partnership with Chiswick Book Festival that will boost both their festival and the cinema in another tough year for businesses.

We’re a venue that’s fully open to everyone and we want to use it, and the opportunity being the first and only cinema for Trafalgar Entertainment presents, to platform a new, creative way that a cinema can function for its community and for cultural engagement. This year we double down on the statements we’ve made in the past and we showcase just how unique, creative and surprising a space this can be. It’s a real privilege to be trusted with such remarkable artistic legacy and to be able to platform it exclusively for our customers.”
