ESCAPE TO YOUR FAVOURITE WALKING SPOTS
It’s National Walking Month and to celebrate we check out the places you love to stroll through, taking in the scenery.
Matt Holt – Orchard Theatre, Dartford
Our main photo is from Matt Holt, Groups and Sales Officer at the Orchard Theatre. Matt is a keen walker and here he is pictured with his mum at Ranscombe Farm Reserve!
Caroline Hatley – Training & Skills Manager
My first photo is Trigg Point which is the summit of Baildon Moor on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. It takes me about half an hour to walk here from my house – a route that passes through ancient Yorkshire tracks and lots of grazing animals. The second photo is coming down from Trigg Point, towards the village of Eldwick. This is the point in the walk where, all of a sudden, the flat-ish moor top gives way to a very steep descent. The sudden view for miles in the distance, combined with the big, big skies, is always pretty breath taking, whatever the weather.
I was recently chatting to a neighbour, who asked how I was settling in. I’ve been here nearly two years but, to a Yorkshireman, a southerner is always “settling in”! I commented on the noticeable increase in traffic around Bradford to the south, since lockdown lifted. “Ay”, he said. “But if tha’ turn left instead of reight, tha’ see a 1000 mile o’ freedom”.
Catherine Goss – Wyvern Theatre & Swindon Arts Centre
Just a short walk from both the Wyvern Theatre and Arts Centre is Town Gardens in Old Town, Swindon. It’s a great place to grab a coffee and have a chilled wander. There is so much to discover and enjoy including beautiful gardens, an aviary, the bandstand, a sculpture of Peter Pan and a really cool concert bowl (based on the one in Hollywood but MUCH smaller!)
Simon Parker – G Live
I discovered Hoe Stream in lockdown. Turned out I’d lived 500 yards away from it for two years and didn’t know it existed. It was such a lovely find and so relaxing with the sound of the stream. Within seconds you forget you’re on the outskirts of a busy town, and it’s where Jake took his first properly unaided steps.
Staff from the Orchard Theatre, Dartford
Below are some of the team in Dartford’s Central Park, going for an afternoon walk around the park as part of April’s Anti-Stress month.
Beth Treen and Sophie Dodson – Swindon Theatres
Beth and Sophie from Swindon Theatres enjoy walking at Lydiard Park with their dogs, Birdie and Chester. There is lots to see and do and loads of lovely open space for the dogs to run and play.

Megan Kinsey – Churchill Theatre Bromley
I’m very fortunate that my parents live in the heart of the countryside in Sussex, and very close to the South Downs, so we have lots of beautiful walks on our doorstep. A particular favourite would be Devil’s Dyke as on a clear day you can see most of the county in the distance and there’s often lots of dogs around which pleases me greatly. But there’s great areas near Storrington and Shoreham by Sea as well that I regularly frequent.
Dave Bradbury – TE PR and Comms Manager
We’re surrounded by beautiful countryside in Staffordshire with the Moorlands only a 30 minute drive away. One of our favourite places to walk on the moors is The Roaches, a prominent rocky ridge near to Leek and Tittesworth Reservoir in the Staffordshire Peak District. These photos are from an exhilarating walk on New Year’s Day.
