HITTING THE RIGHT NOTE
Crewe Lyceum Theatre is placing pianos in public spaces across Cheshire East as part of a project funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The pianos, requisitioned with support from Cheshire East Council, have been placed in public spaces in both Crewe and Macclesfield town centres as part of plans to re-establish vibrant town centres that welcome back residents and visitors alike post lockdown.
These upright pianos have been decorated by local artists and community groups. The decorated instruments are for members of the public to play and interact with, along with hosting a programme of performances, ranging from headline professional acts to community choirs and student musicians. The project will also include a series of lunchtime concerts, utilising the Crewe Lyceum Theatre’s very own Bechstein Grand Piano, donated to the theatre in 2008 by the Men of Crewe Railway Works.
The project is being run by Creative Learning and Engagement Manager at the Crewe Lyceum, Lucy Thomson-Smith, in collaboration with local musical director and Lyceum Choir leader, Treona Holden. The pianos will be in place until September 2022.
