Welcome to the April edition of Ensemble. I hope you’re all keeping well.

We start with exciting news from last night’s Olivier Awards where Kathleen Marshall was awarded the prize for Best Theatre Choreographer for her stunning work on our revival of Cole Porter’s classic musical, Anything Goes!

Howard and I were joined at the ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall by the production’s Co-Producers Eilene Davidson and David Lazar, and Executive Producers Daniel Brodie and Matt Parritt. We’re absolutely delighted for Kathleen and I’m sure you’ll all join me in congratulating her and celebrating this wonderful news. It’s been quite a year for Anything Goes, and you can read all about the show’s success in this month’s Ensemble.

Last week, Howard, Helen and I, along with some colleagues from TE, attended the Birmingham Rep’s Gala Dinner to celebrate 50 years in their current building and the redevelopment of the theatre’s entrance that will spill out onto Centenary Square, making it more welcoming and inviting to visitors. Howard took over as The Rep’s Chairman just before lockdown last year.

The award-winning new building opened in October 1971 and over the past 50 years, countless stars and acclaimed new productions have started their journeys from their home at The Rep. The Gala evening celebrated an incredible half a century at the forefront of British theatre and and helped raise vital funds to secure the theatre’s future. The Gala menu was designed by Michelin star Brummie chef Glynn Purnell and guests were treated to an evening of entertainment from some of Birmingham’s hottest new talent.

Finally, it’s the Easter Bank Holiday later this week. Let’s hope for a bit of warm sunshine. I wish you all a very happy holiday and to those of you working across the businesses, a huge thank you from us all.
