EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: ASHLEY SMITH

Welcome to our monthly who’s who of Trafalgar Entertainment. This month we say hello to Ashley Smith from Trafalgar Releasing.

Describe yourself in 3 words!

I would typically describe myself as modest – which makes this question tough!  I would say that I am also thoughtful and loyal.

Career highlight so far?

In all honesty a huge career highlight was being asked to join the Trafalgar Releasing team.  Knowing the achievements I had made and the relationships I had built throughout my career culminated to make me a sought-after addition to the US team was at the same time humbling and eye-opening.

Favourite Trafalgar Releasing event release?

I all-caps LOVE being able to say that I was a part of the record-breaking/record-setting BTS event, but I actually think I would choose Joni 75: A Birthday Celebration as my favourite.  As we wrote in the event synopsis, her music has a unifying effect that we saw not only in the event content itself but in the promotion and the partnerships and the enthusiasm that we experienced throughout the entire campaign.  It sounds appropriately “hippie-ish”, but it really was so cool and so satisfying to be a part of that! It also exceeded expectations at the box office, which never hurts.

Favourite song?

Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton.  I also have a soft spot in my heart for embarrassingly bad 90s music.

Top 3 films?

The Sound of Music, Waiting for Guffman, Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Top 3 dinner party guests (alive or dead)?

Tina Fey, Michelle Obama and my grandma – three ladies who I admire for being smart, witty and sassy.

Favourite destination?

Just off Old Malibu Road in Malibu, CA there is a random grouping of rocks above a tiny strip of beach that will always be favourite.  I used to love to grab a coffee or an ice-cream and just sit and relax and watch the waves.

Biggest regret in life?

I quit piano lessons way too early. Reading music was a struggle and playing outside or watching TV always seems more appealing than practicing piano when I was seven.

Who is your hero?

My younger brother has definitely earned hero status.  He has cerebral palsy and has encountered so many set-backs, but he is the fiercest fighter and has the BEST attitude.  He is really one of the most positive, impressive and heroic people I know.
