EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: NICK COOK

Welcome to our monthly who’s who of Trafalgar Entertainment. This month we say hello to Nick Cook!

Where do you work and what do you do?
I am the Technical Manager for the Theatre Royal in Sydney. I am currently part of the team in the theatre during the construction. When we open I will be looking after all things technical and facilities.

Describe yourself in 3 words!
Passionate, light-hearted, and loyal.

Favourite stage production and why?
Les Mis. It was the only show my dad ever wanted to see! So it found a special place in my heart through that connection.

Favourite album?
The Killers – Hot Fuss.

Best ever gig?

Keith Urban at the Sydney Coliseum. I had just built the venue and this was the first major show, it was a great gig but on top of that it was just so amazing to see so many people enjoying a space I’d poured so much of myself into.

Top 3 films of all time?
Shawshank Redemption, Once Upon a Time in America and Happy Gilmore.

What’s your go to TV binge boxset?
I commute 90 mins each way to work everyday, so my streaming services get quite the workout! I don’t really have a go to as such, but right now I’m re-watching Line of Duty and Ted Lasso.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Orlando! I’m theme park mad! We have taken the trip there from Sydney twice in the last 4 years! Given the trip takes around 30 hours, it’s quite the commitment for a vacation!

Your Greatest sporting achievement?
I grew up in Cardiff, Wales and played a lot of football (soccer). I’d be out in the garden kicking a ball from morning until night. My parents would drive me all over South Wales to games on Saturday mornings and cheer me on from the touchline in the sun, rain or even snow! Only problem was, I wasn’t very good and the team I played for was equally as bad as I was! So while there was no trophy winning glory, my greatest achievement from it was learning early on that maybe you won’t win it all, but you can have a lot of fun and take pride in trying!

What’s your cooking masterpiece?
Throughout the lockdowns I have become mildly obsessed with low and slow BBQ! I will often be in the garden at 4am firing up the smoker ready for dinner that night! After a few bad cooks, I seem to have gotten the hang of it and it’s become my happy place! Outside in the Aussie sun, beer in hand cooking up a storm!

Who is your hero and why?
This is a hard one as I have had so many inspirational people to help guide me. My family are all such amazing people who have all helped shape me, but for this I’d have to say my daughter, Siân. She is 7yrs old and was born with a neurological vision impairment. From day one she has never let it get in her way, she takes on life with such courage and inspires my wife and I every day.
