EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: ADAM KNIGHT
Welcome to our monthly who’s who of Trafalgar Entertainment. This month we say hello to Adam Knight!
Which room do you currently work in at home and what do you do?
I live in Chester which is about 20 minutes on the train from Crewe where I’m Theatre Director at the Lyceum Theatre. I’ve set my desk up in the living room with a view of the Victorian Steam Mill and Shropshire Union Canal. With the warmer weather and windows open, it’s great to see people out and about and enjoying themselves once again.
Describe yourself in 3 words!
Collaborative, entrepreneurial, optimistic.
Favourite stage production and why?
As an audience member, two productions from 1995: Sam Mendes’ Donmar Warehouse production of Company and Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake – they inspired, enthused and excited me in equal measure. And to work on, it would have to be Guys & Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre in 2005 and Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre in 2009/10 – incredibly happy memories and great friendships formed on both of those productions.
Favourite album?
Hmmm – that’s a tricky one, so I’ll cheat a little! My current fave is Michael Kiwanuka’s Love & Hate.
Best ever gig?
As a programmer, it would have to be Dolores O’Riordan’s final performance with The Cranberries at Belfast Waterfront & Ulster Hall. And two memories from my time at Edinburgh Playhouse: The Proclaimers playing home turf in Leith and watching with pride as the cast of our summer youth project sang their hearts out alongside Lionel Richie in the closing number of his Edinburgh Castle gig.
Top 3 films of all time?
Schindler’s List, Beautiful Thing and Bugsy Malone.
What’s your go to TV binge boxset?
The West Wing – no contest! But I absolutely loved Babylon Berlin and Call My Agent during lockdown.
Favourite holiday destination and why?
Having lived and made great friends in both countries, Ireland and Scotland will always be close to my heart, but visiting family in Australia and Kenya created memories that will live with me forever.
Your Greatest sporting achievement?
Next to completing the London Marathon, it would have to be joining Chester Centurions RUFC – I have a season ticket at Ulster Rugby, but playing the game is a whole different odd-shaped ball game!
What’s your cooking masterpiece?
Does choosing a great restaurant count?! Seriously though, I can bake a mean scone!
Who is your hero and why?
Stephen Sondheim – undoubtedly the Shakespeare of modern times – the richness, breadth and insight in his work: from West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods, Assassins and beyond is incredible.
