THE MAN OF LA MANCHA
Production General Manager Sarah Cant gives us an update about the recent socially distanced workshop trialled by the Productions team.
In August the Trafalgar Theatre Productions team assembled an amazing group of West End stars, including Jenna Russell, Gary Wilmot and Clive Rowe, and International Opera singer, Rolando Villazón, to workshop a new version of The Man of La Mancha.
It was an exciting week working again with The King and I director Bartlett Sher who came over from the US (via 2 weeks quarantine!) for the workshop to look in depth at the script and music.
Working in new ways to make the workshop COVID-19 safe was a challenge. We tested the cast before and during the week, did temperature checks every day, ensued everyone was wearing a mask, kept everyone at least 2 metres apart in the rehearsal space and had screens between them when singing. Everyone was so excited to be in a rehearsal room performing together that they all embraced this new world!
The week culminated with a mini performance for Howard, Rosemary and the Trafalgar Productions team, which was really exciting and gave a hint at an interesting and modern take on the piece that we hope to be able to develop further into a full production and amazing to listen to live singing again from some incredible voices!
