RENOVATION WORK CONFIRMED FOR TRAFALGAR STUDIOS
Although it’s very early days at the moment, TE can confirm that restoration building work due to be carried out Trafalgar Studios will commence sometime later this year.
As previously reported in the media, the project will see our iconic London venue converted from two performance spaces into a single 630 seat auditorium, taking the theatre back to its original historic configuration.
Westminster City Council granted TE the necessary planning permission and listed building consents to carry out the work earlier this year before Covid-19 took hold in the UK. The planning applications were also supported by The Theatres Trust.
Trafalgar Studios closed its doors earlier than anticipated on 16 March following official Government advice due to the spread of Covid-19 and the venue has remained closed ever since. However, now that building sites have been granted permission to re-open, work will hopefully commence as originally planned during the summer of 2020. The project will include restoration of the theatre’s original Art Deco style, refitting of the stalls basement bar, improvements to the toilets and maintenance to the roof.
However, with the current pandemic and therefore, delayed commencement of construction, it is highly unlikely that TE will be able to re-open the venue until sometime early next year. Venue staff have been informed of the plans and of the possible implications and has entered into consultation talks with those affected.
