MY CHRISTMAS DAY
Trafalgar colleagues tell Ensemble how they’ll be spending Christmas Day this year.

I will be spending Christmas Day with my husband, my mother-in-law and my two children who will be eagerly waiting for Father Christmas to arrive on Christmas morning.
On Christmas Eve we bake gingerbread, which fills the house with a delicious smell and also put the turkey in its ‘bath’, which is a tub of water filled with a concoction of spices to make it extra juicy and tasty as advised by Nigella Lawson!

A cosy but perfectly-formed Christmas Day for me. Just my wife (Emma Bennetts of course!), our youngest daughter, Bowie the dog and me. The mayhem starts on Boxing Day!

Ok, so not a Christmas Day tradition, but one that symbolises the start of Christmas for us. There is a Christmas Tree farm within walking distance of our house, so we head out, wrapped up warmly, pick our tree and walk home with it on our shoulders, followed by decorating it watching Muppets Christmas Carol and drinking mulled wine! Extra bonus… pine needles still in the car in August!

Christmas Day for me usually involves going for a long winter walk, watching films as a family, and really using the time to reconnect!

For me, Christmas is all about family—though I’ll admit, as a child, I probably thought it was all about presents! Over the years, I’ve come to realise that the real magic of Christmas is people coming together and sharing those special moments. I can’t imagine a Christmas without my family, and it’s been wonderful to watch ours grow over time. Even during the COVID year, when my mum, my sister, and I were all ill, we still dressed up in our best frocks and sat down for Christmas dinner together. That, to me, is the true meaning of Christmas: love, laughter, and making the best of every situation.

Christmas Day for me involves present opening (with the help from our labradoodle, Ted!), an early Christmas dinner, followed by a walk, Home Alone (standard!), board games, Uno, and a few drinks (this year it’ll be Maker’s Mark whiskey!)

I’ll be spending Christmas at Centre Parcs with my husband’s family. It will be our second Christmas as a married couple, and technically my first Christmas with my now in-laws. They’re quite extravagant, so it should be a fun one!
