EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: SEBASTIAN FARR

Where do you work and what do you do?
Hi! I’m Sebastian/Seb. I work as the Programming Associate at Trafalgar Theatres (and venues). In my role, I work with leading producers and promotors to secure and programme content in to all our regional UK Theatres (and venues), with primary focus on Studio and Family work, plus work on Comedy and Live Music alongside my brilliant colleagues (Ellen and Derek). If you ever see a performance, listen to an artist, or think our regional audiences would love a particular show – please do get in touch!

Some Southend-based staff will also know me as one of the Duty Managers at the iconic Cliffs Pavilion. Once every six weeks or so you’ll spot me with a tie on and solving chaos on a Saturday night in Southend.

Describe yourself in 3 words!
A silly goose. Or… Motivated, Fun, Sensitive

Favourite stage production and why?
Either Come from Away, or The Little Big Things. Both caught me completely off guard emotionally and pulled at my heart strings. I love when a show reminds me of the brilliance of humans in the most trying times. I’m also a complete tech geek and thought The Little Big Things was a technical triumph, particularly as it was in-the-round.

Favourite album?

It’s a bit niche, but six months after buying a car at Uni (a Peugeot 107 called Princeton) and being a chronic aux user, I accidentally clicked the CD player and it started playing a homemade CD/Mixtape from the previous owner. It was full of cheesy 90s hits and was quite tacky really, but it livened up lots of journeys with friends. It’s a silly memory we hold dearly. Unfortunately, ‘Deeper Shade of Blue’ was a struggle due to the scratched CD jumping back to the 8 second mark.

Best ever gig?

I saw RAYE at London’s O2 arena last year and was blown away. She is a generational talent, full of character on stage and produces some absolute bops. I’ve never been in an arena setting with such an intimate feel before. It felt like there were 200 of us in the room, not 20,000.

Top 3 films of all time?
Can I list Chalet Girl three times? If you’re having a bad day, watch Chalet Girl. If you’re having a great day, watch Chalet Girl. If you’re bored… watch Chalet Girl. I’d probably struggle to list three top films. I will watch a film and then forget its name and creatives almost immediately.

What’s your go to TV binge boxset?
As exampled above, I’m not the most seasoned viewer. It’s taken two years but I’m slowly making my way through Friends. I’m a fan of new comedy writing too but tend to watch once (then forget!). Recent highlights have been Starstruck, Colin from Accounts, and Beef.

Favourite holiday destination and why?
Sri Lanka. I have only visited once (2010 – a long time ago!) but it still sticks out as one of the most beautiful countries I have visited. The many people we met were so generous and hospitable. The wildlife is incredible (I will never get over the sight of monkeys chilling by the pool at the second destination I stayed at). There was a lot to take in and learn, but also time and space to relax. Just make sure you book extra luggage if you visit, there are many climates!

Your Greatest sporting achievement?
I’m a former gymnast, having competed as a youngster (with limited success, but do have some medals). After bowing out of competitive gymnastics due to injury and subsequent surgery/recovery, I started teaching for four years. Sadly, I no longer train, teach, or compete. But if there’s an empty stage or corridor, I will accept invitations to cartwheel on my lunch break.

Who is your hero and why?
My twin sister, Rhianna. When you’re a twin, everything is a competition. My sister and I are one of two sets of twins in my immediate family (my older brothers are also twins). My brothers set the bar high, and my sister keeps setting it higher! My sister works in football as an analyst and has worked to become a real force of nature in the WSL and at international level. She works far too hard, but is also celebrated for her knowledge, determination, and professionalism across the industry. I hope one day to be as celebrated as her – through hard work, strong spirit and being a generally good egg.

What is your cooking masterpiece?
Hear me out… An omelette. Seasoned with anything I can find at the time. Usually smoked paprika, crushed chillis, salt, pepper, a drop (and then some) of Worcestershire sauce and some mixed herbs. Throw in some moon-blushed home-grown tomatoes, chorizo, and prosciutto and throw something green on top as a garnish (and to make it Instagram friendly). Bon appétit… or Bone apple teeth.
