SUMMER SCREENINGS FOR RSC AND GLYNDEBOURNE

Trafalgar Releasing team up with cultural powerhouses the RSC and Glyndebourne to present two classic tales in cinemas this summer.

On 5 June, cinema goers can witness the RSC’s acclaimed gender swap production, The Taming of the Shrew, in a live screening. In a re-imagined 1590, England is a matriarchy. Baptista Minola is seeking to sell off her son Katherine to the highest bidder. Cue an explosive battle of the sexes in this electrically charged love story. Justin Audibert (Snow in Midsummer, The Jew of Malta) turns Shakespeare’s fierce, energetic comedy of gender and materialism on its head to offer a fresh perspective on its portrayal of hierarchy and power.

Glyndebourne returns with a brand new production, the classic Cinderella, as seen through the lens of composer Massenet’s sensuous and lavish score. Glyndebourne favourite and international star Danielle de Niese plays the titular role in this glittering and colourful opera. The production is screened live in cinemas on 30 June.
