THE NATIONAL POLICE MEMORIAL SERVICE
The National Police Memorial Service is an annual event, hosted each year by a different home nation, that remembers and celebrates the lives of Police Officers killed in action.
This year it was due to take place at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, but ten days before the event, St David’s Hall was closed due to the discovery of RAAC in the venue.
Over 700 people from across the world were due to arrive in the Welsh capital for the service and so New Theatre Cardiff stepped in to offer the venue as a replacement.
Due to the nature of the event, and a large number of high-profile Government officials attending from all four home nations, New Theatre Cardiff worked with both South Wales Police and the Metropolitan Police on security for the event, along with Personal Protection Officers and search teams to ensure New Theatre Cardiff could deliver the event, which usually takes three months planning from an operational perspective.
In addition, the majority of the venue staff worked their only day off in order to make the event happen.
Debbie Edwards, Administrator for the National Police Memorial Day, said: “A huge thank you again to all the staff at the New Theatre Cardiff. You took us into your hearts and we’ll be forever grateful. It was a very moving service and the New Theatre did us proud.”
